From Sarah Godlewski, Treasurer, State of Wisconsin

May 15, 2026
My fellow Wisconsin Democrats,
It’s Sarah Godlewski here, and I’m stepping in this week with a special message as WisDems First Vice Chair. I want to take a moment to speak directly to you about what is happening in our state.

This weekend, the Wisconsin GOP will hold its annual convention in the Dells. If history is any guide, they will spend the weekend parading around their support of Donald Trump while lying about the economic devastation his policies are inflicting on working people across Wisconsin. As they scramble to find excuses for the consequences of their terrible policy decisions, hardworking Wisconsinites are the ones stuck with the bill.

Let's actually talk about the reality the GOP wants us to ignore.

Wisconsinites are struggling. Groceries, gas, rent, and housing costs are all climbing, while wages are not keeping up. Parents are stretching every dollar just to cover the basics. All of this is the direct result of policies that Wisconsin Republicans have spent the past year cheering on. Here’s the truth: no amount of political fanfare will change the truth that ordinary people simply cannot afford to get by in Wisconsin.

What makes this even more outrageous is that the people sent to Washington to fight for us have utterly failed by every metric to do their jobs. Just last week, constituents protested Medicaid cuts outside a private event Derrick Van Orden held in Sparta, and he dismissed them entirely, saying they “don’t know what they are talking about.” While Van Orden, Tiffany, and Wisconsin’s four other congressional Republicans ignore their constituents and cozy up to ultra-wealthy donors, Wisconsinites are being left behind. Whether they are handing out tax breaks to the 1% or selling out to corporate interests, every minute Wisconsin’s Republican congressional delegation spends in Washington comes at the expense of working people.

The convention this weekend will be yet another show of how deeply out of touch Wisconsin Republicans are with the people they represent.

But let’s be clear, we see right through them. Here at WisDems, we work every day to counter the Wisconsin GOP’s outrageous attacks on working people in our state.
Now more than ever, we must come together and fight like hell to elect Democrats this November and beyond.

 With gratitude,

Sarah Godlewski
